
Edmonton Neighbourhood Watch (ENW) is a not-for-profit, charitable, volunteer passive crime prevention organization.

Our Mission: Our mission is to improve the quality of life within all Edmonton communities through the fostering of an educational and cooperative crime prevention program, at the neighbourhood level by working to encourage awareness and participation.
Our mandate for the program is to be proactive in addressing community problems and in cooperation with residents of Edmonton provide them with information and skills to protect themselves and their property from the threat of crime.
Our values include:

crime prevention and deterrence; and communication with all our members and the community at large.
Code of Ethics:
ENW has adopted the Ethical Fundraising and Financial Accountability Code as prescribed by the Canadian Centre for Philanthropy. This code spells out Donors Rights, Fundraising Practices and Financial Accountability.
Goals:
Foster healthy and safe communities by promoting participation in crime prevention activities at the community level;
Develop and enhancing the skills of Neighbourhood Watch volunteers by providing information, resources, and education;
Promote, facilitate, and celebrate volunteerism and community policing;
Provide a multi faceted communication network to share information;
Advocate on behalf of the membership on general issues affecting the program and crime prevention;
Assist in the creation of programs in new neighbourhoods and revitalize existing programs;
Provide and maintain a central administrative operation;
Ensure healthy working relationships with ENW's various partners; and
Ensure that ENW retains a position of health, is sustainable in the long term and continues to provide relevant and valuable service to the members and the community.
Structure:
ENW has a policy governing Board of Directors. A Director is elected or appointed to fulfill a specific supervisory function. The work of the Board is done by committees. Board Members are elected for a two year term in alternating years and may serve a maximum of three consecutive terms. [See chart next page.]
Membership meetings are held once a year. Special meetings are called as needed to discuss significant matters.

Each of the neighbourhoods in Edmonton has a Zone Leader elected by the community. If this position is vacant the community league president is the point of contact for the community. Zone Leaders are responsible for membership recruitment and issuing crime prevention notices and training members.
Each Zone Leader assigns Block Captains to supervise a specific area of the neighbourhood. Block Captains assist in membership recruitment, training and communication within their block.
Administration:
ENW has a Program Director. The Program Director is responsible for board and volunteer support and training, communication and newsletter production, membership campaign coordination, as well as, data base and records management. The Director screens all new applicants through CPIC to check for a criminal record.
Programs and Services:
Personal Safety Training: we bbased on Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design we teach residents how to secure their property to prevent becoming a victim of crimeelieve that only once one is safe as an individual will you turn your attention to the community.
Residential Security Training:
Operation Identification: Engraving household articles to facilitate recovery if stolen.
Reporting Crime: training on how to properly report a crime
Light up the Night: Starting October 31 we ask residents to leave front door lights on all night to enhance the safety of pedestrians.
Auto Dialer: The auto dialer provides statistics each month for each neighbourhood, notification of meetings, issues crime alerts and sends out LOOK Alert requests to each member. We will also fax blast to business when a crime alert is issued by the EPS.
