The Autodialer
The autodialer is an automatic dialer and message recording system. Every member of Neighbourhood Watch is entered onto this system.
The purpose of the system is for communications between the Edmonton Police Service and the community for:
- notice of upcoming meetings (Neighbourhood Watch or community)
- requests for volunteers
- relaying crime statistics or trends
- L.O.O.K. Alert requests
- crime alerts
The dialer will telephone eight lines at a time. Several different messages can be distributed to several different communities at the same time. A voice message is recorded, and then the telephone system calls the phone numbers as retrieved from the autodialer database and plays the recorded message.
If there is a crime trend or an alert in your community, the Edmonton Police Service will place this on the system to help make the community aware of the situation. A phone number will be provided to contact should you have any information or observe an item on the crime alert.
Crime alerts always take priority over public service messages. Crime alerts are only issued by EPS members.
